PVC

PVC membrane is a cost-effective alternative to traditional roof and facade cladding systems such as sandwich panels, trapezoidal sheet metal, standing seam roofing, metal mesh and can be produced in many colors according to the architectural project design.

Usually produced in bright white, the flexible membrane cover fabric reduces radiant heat gain, keeping indoor temperatures cooler in hot weather conditions. PVC membrane cover fabric has a lifespan of approximately 15-20 years and is top coated with a protective acrylic or PVDF topcoat.

If the PVC membrane is exposed to high levels of UV in areas such as Florida or the Southwest US, the design life of PVC is about 10-15 years. Technically, PVC is a molecule composed of carbon, hydrogen and chlorine. The combination of these elements results in a single-layer membrane that is simple to manufacture. During production, the residues can be recycled for remanufacturing and melted down, resulting in less waste. As PVC is a thermoplastic, this membrane can be softened to a semi-solid state and infused with UV light inhibitors and anti-fouling fungicides. During installation, multiple layers of the fabric can be overlapped and fused together in a process known as weldable seam technology. After cooling at room temperature, these layers form a single continuous membrane. PVC coated with non-toxic and flame-resistant TiO2 (titanium dioxide) produces a photocatalytic membrane that functions like the leaves of a tree, providing shade and comfort while actively neutralizing airborne pollutants and odors. The unique self-cleaning benefits of TiO2 allow the material to break down dirt and other organic matter through chemical reaction with the sun’s UV rays, oxygen and water vapor present in the air. This reaction, known as oxidation-reduction, converts these materials into harmless gases and natural compounds without using much chemicals, solvents or water. The resulting deposits are simply washed away by rain. As a result, the membrane material remains shiny and clean, reducing the need for frequent maintenance and cleaning of the roof or facade where the material is used.
